Computer Experts Warn: Beware Of April Fools Viruses Author: Bob Bicknell
April Fools' Day traditionally has been a big day for computer hackers to spread viruses and cause other kinds of e-damage.
The big prank day can be a big problem for computer users as hackers write some hoax viruses -- or even worse.
Steven Sundermeier, with Central Command Software, says you could still wind up with a virus even though you thought you were getting a funny joke:
"It's a well 'socially engineered' virus that claims to be an April First virus hoax, but in fact just tries to pique the user's curiosity to open that attachment."
So on April 1st, people on both home and business computers should be extra cautious when checking their e-mails.
There is no one virus to be on guard for. The important thing to remember is, don't open any e-mail attachments from anyone you don't know. In addition, before using your computer, it would be wise to update it with the latest anti-virus package or patches that are available.
