Shortcut to Shutdown Case of Too Much Growth with Too Little Infrastructure
|
| |
A corporation experiencing dramatic business growth promoted an internal employee to
CIO, giving him carte blanche to establish an internal network and computerize office
administration in lieu of manual systems. Despite initial successes, the organization
experienced a major crash of all systems and immediately concluded that a competitor
or adversary had penetrated its network and was both monitoring and manipulating its
network remotely. In reality, the new CIO had inadvertently introduced a virus into
his own network by failing to adhere to sound practices when he loaded unscanned and
unauthorized software onto a laptop used to remotely monitor the network.
Our security policy specialists supplied best practices and basic policies to prevent
recurrence, while our forensic investigators isolated the problem and initiated a
corrective action plan to restore the system to a virus-free condition.
