Online Security, a U.S. based Internet
security and investigations firm, has demonstrated
its commitment to becoming a leader in the
rapidly-developing East Asian E-Commerce sector
through its contribution to The Life and Death
of a DOTCOM in China, the latest in a series
of investment books by Asia Law and Practice,
Asias leading legal resource publisher.
Erik Laykin, President and founder of Online
Security, is one of the key authors of The
Life and Death of a DOTCOM in China, published
in Hong Kong last week. The book focuses
on the effect the Internet boom
has had on Chinas State enterprise
world, the countrys cash reserves,
its regulatory structure, and the nature
of alliances between State enterprises and
officialdom.
Mr. Laykin was asked to contribute to the
project after addressing the American Chamber
of Commerce (AMCHAM) in Hong Kong on Cyber-Terrorism
in the Financial Sector. He will soon
depart the United States for Shanghai, Beijing,
Singapore and Hong Kong on a three-week
promotional tour for the book.
I am honored to have contributed
to this project which is the definitive
blueprint for establishing a dot-com business
in China, Laykin said. Hopefully
I have conveyed to investors, the legal
community and the business sector the types
of security and privacy issues that are
inherent to the open architecture of the
Internet, and in many instances unique to
Asia. This knowledge will save new businesses
countless hours of management time and millions
of dollars.
Each of the authors of The Life and Death
of a DOTCOM in China is a recognized expert
and global authority in a different field
related to conducting business in Asia.
While on one level a gripping narrative,
chronicling a fictitious company dot-com
start-up from its torturous creation to
its slow, painful death; the book is also
a comprehensive legal and business guide,
and the first-ever detailed account of Internet
investment in China.
After the recent dot-com shakeout
out in the United States, The Life and Death
of a DOTCOM in China is an insightful prelude
to the steps necessary for establishing
a secure and profitable E-Commerce operation
in Asia, James Gordon, CEO of Online
Security said.
In addition to the book, Online Security
has recently assisted in efforts to combat
Internet crime in East Asia by consulting
with the Hong Kong Police Departments
Computer Forensics Task Force and the Hong
Kong Trade Development Council.
Domestically, on November 8th, OnlineSecurity
released its iProtectÔ Anti-QAZ.Worm,
a highly specialized program that protects
corporate and government computer networks
against the vicious QAZ.Worm. The virus,
also known as the "Chinese Worm,
was first discovered in China in July 2000,
and was recently found by the Federal Bureau
of Investigation to have reportedly infected
Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT) in
a widely reported hacking incident which
ranks among the most daring Cyber Terrorism
attacks ever.
Online Securitys sister company,
OnlineLabs, recently developed websites
for Shanghai Tang, a high-end department
store based in Hong Kong with locations
opening worldwide, as well as for the Hong
Kong Tourist Association. Since 1992 OnlineLabs
has established working relationships with
leaders in the business community such as
Warner Brothers, Columbia/Tristar, Toyota
and OralB.
