Computer Associates teams up with OnlineSecurity to provide Managed Security and Investigative Service.

New annual prepaid service launches to give corporate counsel and executives; “Digital-Evidence-Peace-of-Mind”
Posted: May 26 2004

Online Security (OLS) and Computer Associates (CA) have announced a strategic alliance with the simultaneous launch of two new security services. In this unique partnership, Computer Associates and Online Security will join forces to protect digital assets in corporate environments by educating C-level executives on key security issues concerning their company and provide immediate investigative response to security related issues such as internal fraud, CyberCrime and malware attacks.

The alliance was recently formalized as a result of the successes in the past year where OLS and CA have teamed up to assist Fortune 50 companies in their evaluation and investigation of corporate fraud as well as internal and external attacks against their IT infrastructure, intellectual property and brand equity.

Erik Laykin, President of OnlineSecurity said; “Through CA’s vigorous commitment to security products with their eTrust brand combined with their global reach; OnlineSecurity will now have the ability to offer it’s professional services to more customers in dozens of new markets.”

Under this new structure, OLS will provide resources to CA and their global customer base through the newly launched “Security Incident Preparedness and Response Service.” This service is comprised of two components – a pro-active security analysis service and a re-active investigative package.

Both services are sold on an annual contract basis and are structured to provide executive level management with the critical ability to understand what is required to detect threatening incidents within their enterprise, to prepare key personnel to respond to incidents, and lastly when additional support is required to have 24/7 access to incident response and forensic specialists during the critical 24 to 72 hours following an incident.

The first step, however in enabling a corporation to respond to a cyber attack appropriately and effectively is education. The education component of security assessments often comes in difficult to understand technical jargons that is appropriate for the technical staff but ultimately cripples the corporate decision makers instead of empowering them. The Cyber Assessment component of the joint service will fill that gap by providing top level executives with a concise and objective overview of the key security vulnerability issues facing their corporation today.

The on-call 24/7 Incident Response is a “Managed Security Service” which provides for the deployment of the OnlineSecurity investigative teams within the most critical first hours of the onset of initial infection/attack or an internal security issue.

When a corporation is attacked either internally or externally the IT department must devote their time to reactive tasks relating to remediation – such as protecting uninfected sectors, restoring from back-ups, removing the infection, etc. As a result, not enough attention can be paid to follow the clues and trails at the “digital crime scene” that may result in capturing the cyber-criminals or managing the internal fallout. The 24/7 Incident Response service fills in the gap by efficiently retaining digital evidence in accordance with accepted Federal Standards which may be later analyzed and reviewed for possible legal action.

As the internal IT Department focuses on upholding the integrity of the day-to-day operations of the infrastructure, the 24/7 Incident Response team will offer Executive Management and General Counsel timely and easy to understand reports and updates with the nature of the attack, its impact, theories of motive, possible strategies for future investigations and the peace of mind that the electronic evidence has been safely preserved.

“As a testing and validation partner for new CA products and features in the eTrust Suite such as 20/20 and Network Forensics, OnlineSecurity has provided valuable insight in to the usage and operation of many CA products. As a result they are the natural partner to provide professional services to our global clients.” Said Eric Maurice, Product Manager CA eTrust Brand.

“This new managed service will give the executive staff of our corporate clients the ability to manage cyber risk in a more streamlined fashion, finally providing best of breed products in combination with top cyber investigative talent on an annual prepaid ‘on call’ basis which removes the guess work out of the classic corporate response to an internal or external attack: ‘What do I do now?” said OnlineSecurity CEO Charles Balot.
